Ownership

Tribal Logo Medium Circle 2Frontier Village came under the ownership of the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe (“YPIT”) in June, 2012. However, many people do not know much about YPIT and the story of their growth and their economic development. Frontier Village represents only a part of the growth in which YPIT has engaged. YPIT also owns the Prescott Resort and Conference Center, Sundog Business Park, Bucky’s Casino and the Yavapai Casino.

In addition to this portfolio of properties, YPIT continues to expand its holdings by investing in real estate through strategic acquisitions that meet or exceed their business objectives. However, YPIT is not a traditional commercial real estate investor, since their investments and projects are considered permanent and inter-generational.

History Tells a Story

The history of the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe is rich and the events that have brought YPIT to where it is today are the stuff of legend. The journey from Tribal independence and control by outside forces to a position of self-determination has not always been an easy one.

After YPIT became a Federally recognized Native American Tribe the Federal Government allocated approximately 1,500 acres of land as “trust land” for the exclusive control and use of YPIT.

Since its recognition as a sovereign entity, YPIT has developed business enterprise models that employ hundreds of people whose income delivers additional economic benefits to the communities around it including Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley, Arizona.

The Frontier Village Shopping Center

In the 1990’s YPIT agreed to allow the construction of the area’s largest open air shopping center, Frontier Village. The Center grew into three phases totaling approximately 680,000 square feet.

For many years, Frontier Village was the primary retail power center serving central Arizona. With growth throughout the 1990’s and through 2007, the Center flourished. With the housing market decline and the disruptions in the economy, Frontier Village, like many retail centers, endured a slump.

In June, 2012, YPIT purchased the Frontier Village Shopping Center. YPIT became the sole owner and manager of Frontier Village and immediately took up a presence in the Center by relocating its Real Estate and Property Management Department to Suite 114 in Phase II.

Commitment to Excellence

YPIT is fully committed to the future of Frontier Village and this commitment is indicative of the intrinsic values YPIT brings to each of its real estate assets and projects.

The Real Estate and Property Management Group will be engaged in directing all of the leasing, tenant relationships and property management issues facing the Center. Plans are underway to engage in a revitalization of Frontier Village in keeping with commercial retail center standards and a strong marketing program.
